What You Need To Know About Adding Window Film To Your Auto Glass

Adding privacy window films to the windows on your car can provide some protection from prying eyes and increase the security inside your vehicle. When the glass is tinted dark enough, it can become nearly impossible to see through. However, it is essential that you check your local laws for limitations or restrictions that may be associated with tinting glass.

Tint Film Materials

Many different materials make up privacy window films for your vehicle. Most have multiple layers, including polyester, metalized coatings, dyes, adhesives, and protective coatings. The layers work together to provide varying degrees of heat rejection, UV protection, glare reduction, and privacy.

Some tint films may also include nanoparticles or ceramic coatings for added durability and performance. Nanofilms are often rated higher in UV protection but can also create denser color or reflective properties, making them nearly impossible to see through.

In some states, dark privacy window films must be approved for the vehicle or may not be allowed because they make it difficult for authorities to see into the car. The laws surrounding window tinting and privacy tint films can differ from place to place, so check with the local window tinting service, and they can help.

Tint Film Installation

When you find the best privacy tint film for your vehicle, installing it can be challenging because window tint film is thin and can be difficult to work with. Taking your car to a professional tint shop is often the best option, and most shops can do the job in half the time it would take at home.

Cutting the window film to fit on the glass properly is critical. Any edges that do not adhere to the glass can get caught in the window trim when the glass is moving or could allow wind to get under them and peel the window film off the glass.

Many window tint shops use laser cut films made specifically for the car make and model they are going on to help avoid any issues with peeling. When the film is installed correctly, it is not uncommon for it to stay in place for years.

Film Warranty

Privacy window film installed on your vehicle may have a warranty for the material but installation warranties are often handled by the shop installing the privacy tint film on the vehicle. It is essential to ask about your warranty at the time of the installation. If you have a problem with your privacy window film, you need to know if the installer or manufacturer will take care of it if it comes loose over time.

Contact a local auto shop to learn more about privacy window films.
